20140925 Log - From Ft Collins CO

20140925 (UTC) - 0145z

A fellow member of a Shortwave Radio Station Listening Facebook page asked about a signal in an unknown language and Middle Eastern sounding music on 9510kHz at 0130z. I couldn't hear it from the basement on the Sony ICF-2010 so I linked up to this WebSDR website from The Netherlands and was able to hear clear Arabic speech. The station announcer later identified the programing as having at least administrative offices in Tehran. Another member later reported that "on 7 Sep 14 the Bulgarian DX Blog reported that the Voice of Islamic Republic of Iran (IRIB) changed frequencies and was operating on 9510 from 0023 to 0220 in Arabic with programming destined for northeastern Africa. The announcement indicates the move was made to avoid a conflict with the Voice of Greece on the old frequency of 9420. The transmission on 9510 originates from Iran's Zahedan transmitter." It was fun to figure out a way to hear this signal and to help to identify it.
